Julia (Djula) F. Rodrigues departed this life peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Armando Rodrigues for 33 loving years. Born in Mindelo, Sao Vicente, Republica de Cabo Verde, she was a daughter of the late Augusto A Bento and Francisca Sousa.

She arrived in the United States on August 28, 1970 and has served the Cape Verdean Community faithfully through her generosity, and her love of the Cape Verdean culture. She is well known for cooking traditional Cape Verdean foods and sweets at the Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival at India Point Park in Foxpoint. Djula had a passion for cooking and enjoyed listening to music, dancing, and spending time with her family; selfless to all she encountered and was always the life of the party with her whistle. She was a member for the Racionalismo Cristao in East Providence, formerly of Pawtucket. She was an original founder of the Cape Verdean American Community Development (C.A.C.D.).

She was the loving mother of Manual Almeida, Emilton and his wife Julissa Rodrigues, Julieta Rodrigues all of Pawtucket, Auxilia and her husband Orlando of New Hampshire and Ivone Rodrigues of Cranston. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, Michael Almeida, Orlando Silva Jr., Shari-Arienne and Karine Almeida, Danielle da Cruz, Jermaine Miranda, Zaryia Rodrigues, Devon and Shavonne Collins: five great-grandchildren, Lily, Jaasmine, Michael Jr, Avery and Carter and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her husband, Armando Rodrigues and siblings; Manuel, Joao Damata, Maria Bento and Iria Soares.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 8:00am-11am followed by a service at 11am at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Higginson Ave, Lincoln, RI 02865. Interment will follow at North Burial Ground, Providence.
